| The Amsterdam Arena hosts big name pop concerts and is also the home of Ajax FC. Here the players are training on a saturday before the match on sunday. |
Another view of the Arena. I was flying into Schiphol after a trip home and we flew in from a different direction. You can see my office from here! |
| I'm not sure what this buildning is...part of the University, I think...but it's pretty! |
A view of NiewMarkt all set up for the market on a saturday. |
| This building is at the north end of OudeZijds VorBurghwal. |
The Sea Palace is a floating Chinese restaurant and the white boat to the left is The Boatel, a floating hotel. The green, ship shaped building in the distance is 'Nemo', the Science Museum. |
| There's various boats offering trips up the river. Here a vintage steamer lowers mast and funnel to get under the railway bridge. |
The Ship Museum is worth a visit. They have a replica of The Amsterdam, originally built in the 1700's. |
| Another view of the old docks area. Sint NicolaasKerk is in the distance on the right. |
The main building of the Ship Museum...it's very impressive! |
| The Amsterdam, built by 400 volunteers for the Ship Museum. |
Nemo, The Science Museum is a brilliant place for kids (and for grandads!). It's built above one of the tunnels under Het Ij (the main river in Amsterdam) |
| Central Station. The white building is the place to get weekly/monthly tram tickets. |
I was stuck at Schiphol for a couple of hours, so I snapped a few aircraft...well, about 120 actually! |
| The boat's for sale and it's a lovely location but I can just imagine what the grandkids teachers would think if the boys say, "my grandad lives on a houseboat in Amsterdam". |
May 2005, 60th Anniversary of VE day and there's a parade of WWII vehicles. |
| The weather was awefull but the vehicles look great! |
This caught my eye...a vintage truck with a vintage bike strapped on the front...and a modern couple cycling through the rain in Amsterdam. |
| They parked up in Dam Square for a while and I grabbed a few snaps. The Palace is in the right-hand background. I thought the policeman was saying, "I don't care, shift it, son!". |
A Duck! When I was a lad, you could get a ride on the local beach on one of these for a few (old) pence! |
| The parade's starting to move off to contiue on their trip. |
| Sint Nicolaaskerk in the early evening sun. It looks like it's been transplanted from Moscow! |
At the top end of OudeZijds VoorBurgwal...it could be Venice! |
| The Amsterdam again, different day, better lighting! |
This was a pond until last week, then these artists moved in and dumped a load of rubbish. Someone'll buy it, I suppose... |
| Dam Square and a street entertainer...he was very good! There's a crowd, honestly, I held the camera above my head! |
I turned through 180 degrees and took this snap of the Palace in Dam Square. |
| You know you're in Amsterdam when... You see a Police van with a sign stating, "I'm too sexy for this car"!. I'm making no comment about the boxing gloves... |
