Diggers, Cranes & Other Things, especially for my Grand-Kids
Ryan (7yrs), Chris (5yrs) and Jay-Jay (2yrs).
There's so much building work going on in Amsterdam...it's difficult at times to take a
photograph without some kind of construction machinery getting into the shot.
Most of these photos cover the work on the new north-south underground Metro
extension. There's going to be a new underground station extension at Central Station
(built under the river!) with two other stations on the south bank and three on the
north bank of Het Ij.
The first shot is of the 'front' of Central Station...ignore the big pit in the fore-
ground for a minute or two and just look at the work that went into the main building!
It's a shame that the cement tanks obscure part of the building...and work is due to
go on for the next 5 - 6 years too...

| This big concrete pit is, I think, part of the roof of the underground station. This was part of the river a couple of years ago! |

There's a building of some sort going up over the water. The tourist boats go through the tunnel below the yellow crane. |
| Like dinosaurs, these beasts have be fenced in... |
 |
 |
or they'll be trundling off into the distance! |
| I think that this is a digger of some kind... |
 |

While these two cranes seem to be getting ready to fight! Some of the people are running away! |
| All of this, from the crane in the distance, to 30 - 40 metres behind the camera will be one underground station when it's finished. |
 |
 |
The pipes across the road carry concrete from a temporary concrete 'factory' to the workers, underground. |
| This is the concrete factory...built on what was a canal just a couple of years ago. I'm sure that it will be removed when they've finished the work. |

 |
Here's a crane on a floating platform where they're replacing the canal wall on the OudeZijds AchterBurgwal. |
| This is what's known as a 'big bugger' where I come from! Judging by the fence being approx. 2 metres tall, the top of the jib is around 35 metres above the gound. |

A second, side-on view of the big crane working on the new railway staion at Bijlmer, south-east Amsterdam. |
| OOPS! Almost made it, son! |

Sometimes, things don't go to plan...and it started out as a nice, sunny day... |
